Souls of Our Shoes in Ireland

Our exhibition, ‘Souls of our Shoes – A journey into and out of Domestic Abuse’ was on display throughout August 2022 at the Carraig Centre in Ballincollig, Co. Cork in the south of Ireland.

It walked visitors through the reality of domestic abuse in an incredibly powerful and compelling way as it was staged in a large open area.

The exhibition consisted of physical shoes accompanied by comments from those who have walked away from abuse.

The Rector of Carrigrohane Union of Parishes, Revd Robert Ferris commented “The issue of Domestic Violence is one of those hidden topics which face every street, community and society around the world. It is surrounded in secrecy, shame and pain. Statistics are horrifying 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men suffer from some sort of violence / abuse. By raising this issue in the public domain we want to say its not right, there is help available. I am thankful to the team here at the Carraig Centre for preparing and staffing this important national exhibition. “
